January 28th 2004 was the day snow came to where I live. It happened this time last year, and the year before that and, I'm told, the year before that! But every year, it takes England by surprise, and humans trying to get to work say, "'s no fun in these conditions." Well, being well trained as I am.....I beg to differ!
Far from being "'s no fun", I found it to be Snow Fun! Ian didn't make it into work and, instead, worked from home. For some reason, humans sometimes "work from home" but when they "work from work", they just call it "work". Anyway, this meant I got to go out in the garden alot, and go walkies after Ian had finished working on the work he was working on. Snow really is fun! For a start, it's Woody Dog colour! Secondly, it makes everywhere look like the place my ancestors came from! Thirdly, I have this fur coat that is ideal in these conditions - unlike when it is hot (I sometimes wish it would snow at the height of summer, when the temperature soars into the 80s!).
Another great thing is that I can go digging! Snow is alot easier to dig than the clay soil my garden is usually made out of. And whereas digging clay soil gets my paws and face and everywhere dirty, resulting in me having to have a bath (which would be OK if baths weren't so wet!), I can dig in the snow with impunity. Because it is Woody Dog colour, the mess it makes of my paws and face and everywhere doesn't show up!
I said before that I got some unexpected walkies? Well actually, I suppose I should have called them "hop, skip and jumpies"! Ian thinks I was so happy to be in my element (West Highland-type snow) but, in fact, because some of that snow was as deep as my little legs are long, I was just trying to avoid a chilly underside every step of the way!
The only bad thing about this snow was that it caused the cancellation of dog training, where dogs go to train their humans. Still, there's always next week and, as Ian and Julie both say, better safe than sorry - why go driving on the roads if you don't really really have to!? It simply meant that I was forced to stay at home in the evening, curled up in front of the lovely warm fire!
